The aim of this paper was to establish which methods were more commonly used to determine pulp vitality. Two hundred questionnaires were sent to endodontists from São Paulo with the following question: "Which sources are most commonly used for the detection of the pulp vitality during the patient's examination?" The possible alternatives were: cold, heat, electric, cavity, anesthesia and other tests. That would allow establishing the percentages of use of each test in function of the number of citations. The obtained data showed that the refrigerant skin was the favorite method among specialists (70%), followed by the ice stick (59.5%) and the gutta-percha heat (49%), while the others did not reach 20%.en
