Patients' Expectation Before and Satisfaction After Full-Arch Fixed Implant-Prosthesis Rehabilitation

Abstract

This study evaluated patients' expectation before and satisfaction after full-arch fixed implant-prosthesis rehabilitation. Other variables that could influence patient satisfaction with this therapy were also evaluated. Using a visual analog scale (VAS), a sample of 28 patients assigned scores for their expectation before and satisfaction after therapy regarding chewing, esthetics, comfort, and phonetics. They also completed a questionnaire concerning their evaluation of the dentists' conduct. The average VAS scores were high for both expectation prior to treatment and satisfaction after treatment, and there was no statistical difference between them. Women presented higher expectations than men regarding esthetics (P = 0.040), phonetics (P = 0.043) and comfort (P = 0.013). Significant differences were not found between VAS scores with clinical variables (arch, radiographic bone quality, surgical bone quality, and implant inclination), educational level, and patients' evaluation of the dentists' conduct. Considering the results obtained in this study, expectation before implant-supported, full-arch fixed prosthesis therapy were met following treatment, with women having higher expectations than men.

Resumo Este estudo avaliou a expectativa e a satisfação dos pacientes após a reabilitação de implante-prótese fixa em arco total. Outras variáveis ​​que poderiam influenciar a satisfação do paciente com essa terapia também foram avaliadas. Uma amostra de 28 pacientes atribuídos, por meio de uma escala visual analógica (EVA), pontua a expectativa antes e a satisfação após a terapia em relação à mastigação, estética, conforto e fonética. Eles também preencheram um questionário sobre a avaliação da conduta dos dentistas. Os escores médios da EVA foram altos tanto na expectativa anterior ao tratamento quanto na satisfação após o tratamento, e não houve diferença estatística entre eles. As mulheres apresentaram expectativas superiores às dos homens em relação à estética (p = 0,040), fonética (p = 0,043) e conforto (p = 0,013). Não foram encontradas diferenças significativas entre os escores da EVA com variáveis ​​clínicas (arco, qualidade óssea radiográfica, qualidade óssea cirúrgica e inclinação do implante), nível educacional e avaliação da conduta dos dentistas pelos pacientes. Considerando os resultados obtidos neste estudo, as expectativas antes da terapia de prótese fixa com arco total suportada por implante foram atendidas após o tratamento, onde as mulheres tinham expectativas maiores que os homens.
