Active aging and living conditions in cities of the paulista interior: a look at the SISAP / old indicators

Abstract

This article deals with the living conditions of the elderly in the municipalities of Lorena and Sao Luiz do Paraitinga, located in the Vale do Paraiba Paulista region. It presents the characteristics of each of the municipalities, highlighting aspects of socioeconomic development. As longevity has been a prominent phenomenon in recent years in different areas of research, there is a lack of studies on the needs presented by the new profile of older people, an increasingly growing population in society. The objective of this research was to characterize the living conditions of the elderly of two paulista municipalities and to discuss them in relation to the current social policies. This is a bibliographic research, carried out in October 2016, which used as a source the most recent information from the "Sistema de Indicadores de Saude e Acompanhamento de Politicas do Idoso (SISAP-Idoso)" (System of Health Indicators and Follow-up of Policies of the Elderly (SISAP-Idoso) "Aged"), a secondary database, which combines official information on this population, including the living conditions of the elderly and their relations with the family and society. Data were extracted by SISAP dimension, systematized by municipality and then compared for analysis purposes. In the survey carried out, it was verified that in both municipalities, the elderly present similar living conditions in relation to the indexes surveyed.
