dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this article is to present a study on a set of laws that served as support for public policies to promote equality of racial and ethnic relations with special focus on the issue of black people and teaching of African history and african-Brazilian culture. Such legislation is being seen as one of the strands of concern and steer public policy education nowadays. Forward to the study of this legislation highlights the importance of the thematic approach of history and Afro-Brazilian Culture and African and demand for incorporation of a specific curriculum in teaching practices, from the perspective of combating racism, prejudice and discrimination. Research conducted the survey and analysis of official documents related to the topic. The analysis from the perspective of the legislation was supported by the theoretical framework of Bourdieu (1992, 1998), Hall (2014), Munanga (1996, 2012) and Schwarcz (2001; 2012). All these point to the importance of recognition and appreciation of different cultural identities and the need for the school to find ways to confront racism, prejudice and discrimination.en
