"Quem nasce em Canudos é o quê?" : sequelas distópicas em os sertões e representação social em Bacurau

Abstract

Resumo: O tema da presente monografia é a luta sertaneja retratada em diferentes textos. Tomaremos como objeto de estudo o romance Os sertões, de Euclides da Cunha, e o filme Bacurau, de Kleber Mendonça Filho e Juliano Dornelles. Como pergunta de pesquisa, temos: quais são as relações de diálogo entre o romance Os sertões e o filme Bacurau? Como a representação de uma parcela da sociedade é apresentada nas duas obras? De que forma elas se comunicam? Os objetivos desta pesquisa são: 1) apresentar o contexto em que se situa a obra de Euclides e pontuar sua narrativa da luta dos sertanejos na Guerra de Canudos; 2) apresentar uma parte da história do cinema brasileiro e apontar a intertextualidade entre filmes nacionais e o romance de Euclides e 3) comparar os elementos presentes na obra com partes do enredo do filme, comprovando os jogos dialógicos do romance e da estruturação da obra ficcional. Tal pesquisa tem por justificativa contribuir para a percepção do impacto que obras clássicas da literatura brasileira, como a de Euclides da Cunha, por exemplo, causam até os dias de hoje nas mais diversas expressões artísticas e evidenciar a importância da representação da força dos povos nordestinos na indústria audiovisual. A metodologia a ser empregada será a da pesquisa bibliográfica com cunho qualitativo. A fundamentação teórica se ancora em autores como Antonio Candido (1980), Olímpio de Souza Andrade (1996), Paulo Emílio Salles Gomes (1996) e Sheila Schavarzman (2012). Como resultados, temos que a obra de Euclides da Cunha se manteve relevante durante a construção do cinema e, até hoje, mantém tal relevância, se fazendo presente na concepção de Bacurau, desde seu enredo até seus personagens, estabelecendo assim um diálogo vívido e representativo entre ambas as obras da importância da cultura sertaneja e da força do povo nordestino.

Abstract: The subject of this monography is the struggle of the sertanejo portrayed in different texts: literary and cinematographic. We will study the novel Os sertões, by Euclides da Cunha, and the film Bacurau, by Kleber Mendonça Filho and Juliano Dornelles. As the research questions, we have: what are the relations of dialogue between the novel Os sertões and the film Bacurau? How is the representation of this portion of society presented in the two works? How do they communicate? The objectives of this research are: 1) to present the context in which Euclides' work is located and to punctuate his narrative of the struggle of the sertanejos in the Canudos War; 2) present a piece of the history of Brazilian cinema and point out the influences that Euclides' novel has on national films, and 3) compare the elements presented in the work with parts of the film's plot, proving the influence of the novel in the structuring of the movie. Such research has as justification, the contribution of the perception of the impact that classic works of Brazilian literature, such as that of Euclides da Cunha, for example, cause to this day in the most diverse artistic expressions, and to highlight the importance of representing the strength of the northeastern people of Brazil in audiovisual industry. The methodology used will be bibliographic research with a qualitative nature. The theoretical basis is anchored in authors, such as Antonio Candido (1980), Olímpio de Souza Andrade (1996), Paulo Emílio Salles Gomes (1996) and Sheila Schavarzman (2012). As a conclusion, we have that the work of Euclides da Cunha remained relevant during the construction of the Brazilian cinema and, until today, it maintains such relevance, being present in the making of Bacurau, from its plot to its characters, thus establishing a vivid and representative dialogue between both works of the importance of the sertanejo culture and the strength of the northeastern people of Brazil.
