Entre classe e gênero : a ordem social da literatura de Jane Austen

Abstract

Resumo: O tema da presente pesquisa é a escrita inaugural de Jane Austen, a partir das obras Razão e Sensibilidade, Orgulho e Preconceito e Persuasão, no tocante ao gênero e ao lugar de classe. A pergunta da pesquisa é: como a ordem social afeta classe e gênero no rumo das narrativas? Tal pesquisa se justifica por esclarecer a influência dos padrões sociais nas obras escritas por uma mulher. Os objetivos de pesquisa são: 1) Apresentar Jane Austen e a sociedade de seu tempo; 2) Apresentar a autora e as obras; 3) Analisar a ordem social referente à classe e ao gênero nas obras de Jane Austen. A metodologia empregada é a da pesquisa bibliográfica, de cunho qualitativo. A pesquisa estabeleceu-se segundo a análise entre o romance e os elementos sociais de classe e gênero, representados por personagens e ações nos livros Razão e Sensibilidade, Orgulho e Preconceito e Persuasão. Esta pesquisa tem embasamento teórico em autores como Robert Irvine (2005), Eric Hobsbawm (2001), Sandra Guardini Vasconcelos (2002) e Ian Watt (2010). Como resultados, tem-se que a literatura é intrínseca às mudanças sociais e, em Jane Austen, apresenta-se uma crítica a esse padrão, sendo desenvolvida ao longo do romance de maneira subtendida, conduzindo a narrativa.

Abstract: The theme of the present research is the inaugural writing by Jane Austen, based on the literary works Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, and Persuasion, about gender and class. The question of this research is: how the social order influenced class and gender in the course of the narratives? Such research is justified by clarifying the influence of social standards on works written by a woman. The research objectives are: 1) Introduce Jane Austen and the society of her time; 2) To present the author and her literary works; 3) Analyze the social order regarding class and gender in Jane Austen's literary works. The methodology used was the bibliographic research, of qualitative nature. The research was established according to the analysis between the novel and social elements of class and gender, represented by characters and actions in the books Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, and Persuasion. This research is based on authors such as Robert Irvine (2005), Eric Hobsbawm (2001), Sandra Guardini Vasconcelos (2002), and Ian Watt (2010). As results, there are: that literature is intrinsic to social changes, and with Jane Austen, it results in a criticism of this social pattern, in such a manner that is developed throughout the novel in a subtended way leading the narrative.
