"Tem sangue retinto pisado, atrás do Herói emoldurado" : a participação dos escravizados na Guerra do Paraguai

Abstract

Resumo: Este trabalho tem por objetivo estudar a participação dos ex-escravos brasileiros como voluntários da pátria na Guerra do Paraguai (1864- 1870), o maior conflito militar da história da América Latina. A pesquisa do tema da presença de libertos e dos voluntários na Guerra do Paraguai se justifica pela reduzida atenção e escasso material produzido pela historiografia brasileira, podendo ser considerada uma história "esquecida". Como objetivo geral se vai tratar dos voluntários e negros na guerra, que antes estavam em atividades civis e eram agora militares nas fileiras do exército imperial, na luta contra o Paraguai. Trata- se de uma pesquisa bibliográfica, por meio da leitura da bibliografia específica sobre o tema da Guerra do Paraguai e da presença de negros, voluntários e de ex-escravos nela. Está organizada em três capítulos sendo o primeiro sobre os antecedentes da guerra na região do Prata, que mostra que a complexa questão das fronteiras entre os vários estados da região não se resolve de maneira satisfatória; no segundo capítulo tratamos da guerra propriamente, especialmente até 1866, quando a derrota de Curupaiti abala o sentimento patriótico brasileiro que surgiu nos primeiros momentos da guerra, levando à uma crise no recrutamento dos voluntários e, no terceiro capítulo, analisamos a presença de ex-escravos e negros livres no contexto do recrutamento para a guerra. O trabalho insere-se na linha de pesquisa de História Social, que busca estudar as experiências de diferentes grupos sociais e suas interações na sociedade, valorizando os aspectos históricos e sociais, como conflito do Paraguai e seu o impacto sobre os a vida dos ex-escravos e negros livres que atuaram como voluntários na guerra.

Abstract: This paper aims to study the participation of blacks, former Brazilian slaves as volunteers of the homeland in the Paraguay War (1864- 1870), the largest military conflict in Latin American history. The research on the subject of the presence of freedmen and volunteers in the Paraguayan War is justified by the limited attention and scarce material produced by Brazilian historiography, which can be considered a "forgotten" history. The general objective will be the volunteers and blacks in the war, who were previously in civil activities and were now military in the ranks of the imperial army in the fight against Paraguay. This is a bibliographical research, by reading the specific bibliography on the theme of the Paraguayan War and the presence of blacks, volunteers and former slaves in it. It is organized into three chapters, the first of which is the history of the war in the Plata region, which shows that the complex question of the borders between the various states in the region cannot be satisfactorily resolved; in the second chapters we dealt with the war itself, especially until 1866, when Curupaiti's defeat undermined the Brazilian patriotic sentiment that arose in the early moments of the war, leading to a crisis in the recruitment of volunteers, and in the third chapter we analyzed the presence of former slaves and free blacks in the context of war recruitment. The work is part of the research line of Social History, which seeks to study the experiences of different social groups and their interactions in society, valuing the historical and social aspects, such as the Paraguayan conflict and its impact on the lives of former slaves and black free men.
