Entre o íntimo e o obsceno : corpos femininos em evidência no início do século XX

Abstract

Resumo: O presente trabalho se baseia na análise da representação dos corpos femininos nas fotografias de um jornal carioca intitulado O Rio Nu, que circulou nas primeiras décadas do século XX na capital brasileira. A pesquisa teve como intuito verificar o que se esperava daquelas imagens femininas, o que gerava atração no público masculino. Para além disso, as relações entre intimidade e obscenidade, privado e público, arte e consumo de massa são pontuados, de modo a ser verificado como isso foi expresso nesse objeto de estudo. Após a devida apresentação do contexto histórico e do jornal, a análise se baseou em uma investigação iconográfica de todos os diferentes elementos presentes nas fotografias colocadas no periódico e a relação de seus possíveis significados com o íntimo da cultura brasileira, para em seguida poder analisá-las sob a ótica das discussões conceituais. Verificou-se a preferência por certo padrão nas representações eróticas e como as condições culturais são agentes compositivos para esse padrão, como aqueles corpos eram comercializados e a sobreposição masculina como causadora dessas condições, além da existência do jornal como produto erótico em meio ao fenômeno da Indústria Cultural já naquele período. Esses e outros fatores possibilitaram entender que os valores e costumes são expressos em toda ação humana, seja ela qual for, cabendo à História essa identificação.

Abstract: The present work is based on the analysis of the representation of the female bodies in the erotic photographs of a Rio newspaper called O Rio Nu, that circulated in the first decades of the 20th century in the Brazilian capital, in order to verify what was expected of that woman, what generated sexual attraction in the male audience, the relations between intimacy, obscen-ity, eroticism and how this are expressed in this object of study. After the proper presentation of the historical context and the trajectory of the object of study, the analysis was based on an iconographic investigation of all the different elements present in the photographs placed in the newspaper and the relation of its possible meanings with the intimacy of the Brazilian culture, to be able to analyze them from the point of view of the conceptual discussions. The preference for a certain pattern in erotic representations was verified and how cultural conditions are in-fluential agents for this pattern, how those bodies were marketed and the masculine overlap as the cause of these conditions, besides the existence of the newspaper as a product in the midst of phenomenon of the Cultural Industry already in that period. These and other factors have made it possible to understand that values and customs are expressed in all human action, what-ever it may be, and this identification belongs to History.
