A liberdade feminina em Gabriela, cravo e canela

Abstract

Resumo: Este trabalho analisa como o romance Gabriela, Cravo e Canela, de Jorge Amado, descoloca o poder do homem sobre a mulher. Realizamos uma leitura das personagens Gabriela, Glória, Malvina e Sinhazinha, sob a perspectiva da liberdade por elas alcançada. Utilizamos, para a análise, as percepções de Freud (1933), Wittig (2019) Cossi (2018) e Lauretis (2019) sobre gênero, e os estudos de Braith (1985) e Candido (2007) sobre a personagem. A pesquisa se justifica em razão de o desejo e a liberdade feminina ainda serem um problema na contemporaneidade. A metodologia utilizada se dá mediante análise bibliográfica por meio do estudo das personagens mulheres do romance. A pesquisa resultou em apreender que, embora as mulheres tenham sido colocadas numa posição de objeto, é possível que elas sejam sujeitos protagonistas de suas vidas. Observou-se, também, a confirmação da literatura como um importante elemento transformador e, para isso, pôde contar com a psicanálise como aliada na interpretação da obra e na corroboração da premissa de que a literatura favorece o ser humano a se perceber através dela.

Abstract: This work analyses how the novel Gabriela, Cravo e Canela, by Jorge Amado, dislocates the power of men over women. This is done through the reading of the characters Gabriela, Glória, Malvina and Sinhazinha, considering the perspective of the freedom they reach. For that purpose, we use the works of Freud (19330, Witting (2019), Cossi (2018) and Lauretis (2019) about gender and those of Braith (1985) and Candido (2007) about character construction. This research is justified as the desire and freedom of women today is still a problem. The methodology used was bibliographic research through the analysis of the women characters of the novel. This research concluded that although women in literature have been put in the position of objects, it is possible for them to become subjects of their own lives. It has also concluded that literature may be transformative, and that psychoanalysis may be an ally in the interpretation of the novel and in the confirmation that literature favors the self-perception of people.
