Condições de saúde e riscos de adoecimento em catadores de materiais recicláveis

Abstract

Resumo: Os catadores de materiais recicláveis podem ser considerados os grandes protagonistas da indústria de reciclagem no país. A atividade de coleta de materiais recicláveis consiste no trabalho de recolher dos resíduos sólidos o material disponível para reciclagem e/ou reutilização. No entanto, este ambiente pode ser marcado por múltiplas precariedades devido a magnitude dos agravos à saúde associados à rotina de trabalho vivenciada por estes profissionais. Nesta perspectiva, o objetivo desta pesquisa foi compreender as condições de saúde e riscos de adoecimento em catadores de materiais recicláveis a partir das atividades desenvolvidas no ambiente laboral. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura, realizada a partir do levantamento de artigos científicos nas bases de dados da National Library of Medicine (PubMed), Medical Literatute Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) e na biblioteca da Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). Os critérios de inclusão foram artigos científicos disponibilizados na integra, nos idiomas português e inglês e que estivessem publicados nos referentes bancos de dados no período correspondente aos últimos dez anos. Os critérios de exclusão foram: resumos, monografias, dissertações, teses, artigos de opinião, editoriais e artigos duplicados nas referidas bases de dados. Durante a fase de busca e/ou amostragem na literatura foram encontrados 23 artigos científicos. Após seleção, quanto aos critérios de inclusão, foram incluídos 13 artigos científicos para compor esta revisão. A partir da análise dos resultados, os estudos foram caracterizados quanto ao ano de publicação: dois de 2013; dois de 2016; um de 2017; um de 2019; três de 2020; um de 2021 e três de 2022. Com base nos estudos, pode-se concluir que as condições de saúde dos catadores de materiais recicláveis são repletas por diversas formas de precariedades. Outro ponto relevante observado nesse estudo é a pouca vinculação dos trabalhadores aos serviços de saúde, sendo que estes, pouco buscam o Sistema Único de Saúde, fato evidenciado pela baixa frequência na realização de consultas e exames de rotina. Logo, não têm o hábito frequente de buscar assistência médica.

Abstract: The collectors of recyclable materials can be considered the main protagonists of the recycling industry in the country. The activity of collecting recyclable materials consists of collecting the material available for recycling and/or reuse from solid waste. However, this environment can be marked by multiple precarious conditions due to the magnitude of health problems associated with the work routine experienced by these professionals. In this perspective, the objective of this research was to understand the health conditions and risks of illness in collectors of recyclable materials from the activities developed in the work environment. This is an integrative literature review, carried out from the survey of scientific articles in the databases of the National Library of Medicine (PubMed), Medical Literacy Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) and in the library of the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). Inclusion criteria were scientific articles available in full, in Portuguese and English and that were published in the relevant databases in the period corresponding to the last ten years. Exclusion criteria were: abstracts, monographs, dissertations, theses, opinion articles, editorials and duplicate articles in the aforementioned databases. During the search and/or sampling phase in the literature, 23 scientific articles were found. After selection, regarding the inclusion criteria, 13 scientific articles were included to compose this review. From the analysis of the results, the studies were characterized according to the year of publication: two from 2013; two from 2016; one from 2017; one from 2019; three from 2020; one in 2021 and three in 2022. Based on the studies, it can be concluded that the health conditions of recyclable material collectors are full of various forms of precariousness. Another relevant point observed in this study is the lack of linkage between workers and health services, as they rarely seek the Unified Health System, a fact evidenced by the low frequency of consultations and routine exams. Therefore, they do not have the frequent habit of seeking medical assistance.
