Abstract: | The benign fibrous-bony lesions are a diverse group of diseases with common features: replacement of normal bone by tissue composed of collagen and fibroblasts, with variable amounts of a mineral substance that could be bone, cement or both. These lesions include the fibrous dysplasia, the periapical cement-bony dysplasia, focal or florid, familiar giant cementoma and ossifying fibroma (cement-ossifying). Osteomyelitis is an acute or chronic inflammatory process of medullar or cortical spaces of bone extending beyond the onset site of development. Diffuse sclerosing osteomyelitis involves to adults mainly the mandible and radiographically is a diffuse radiopaque lesion adjacent to teeth and could be multifocal. The aim of present paper is to describe an uncommon case of fibrous-bony lesion also diagnosed with maxillary osteomyelitis. We conclude that the above mentioned lesions are very similar regarding its clinical, radiographic and histological features. Thus, it is fundamental the combined analysis of these informations to obtain a definite diagnosis. |
