Social and environment management and strategy: The millennium development goals in Pindamonhangaba city [Estratégia e Gestão Social e Ambiental: As metas de desenvolvimento do milênio no município de Pindamonhangaba (Parte 2)]

Abstract

This paper is the second part of a project that aims to present the millennium development goals as a stratregy to social and environment management, focusing in the case of Pindamonhangaba city. The first and second goals were presented in the first paper. In this paper six other goals are shown, and a third paper will present the final discussions about the subject. The fuzzy set method was used to study the eight goals indicators. For each category, was used data provided by IBGE and SEADE. The millennium development goals were established in a world leader meeting in New York, 2000, by 191 countries, including Brazil. These indicators were used to identify the situation of the city, comparing its position with the State and Country situations. The results may reveal possibilities to develop strategies to be considered in the elaboration of regional sustainable development plans.
