Disfunção temporomandibular na terceira idade : revisão de literatura

Abstract

Resumo: Hipótese de estudo: o estudo sugere a conscientização da terceira idade referente a disfunção temporomandibular e seu impacto na saúde do idoso, sendo de modo crucial o diagnóstico precoce para evitar transtornos maiores. Objetivo: Conceituar a Disfunção Temporomandibular existentes na idade comprometida, compreender causas, sinais e sintomas, apresentar os meios de intervenção odontológicos para tratamento. Método: O presente trabalho trata –se de uma revisão de literatura conduzida por meio de artigos científicos publicados em diferentes bases de dados (PubMed, Medline, Scielo, Bireme e Google Acadêmico), utilizando os descritores: Transtornos da Articulação Temporomandibular, Disfunção Temporomandibular, terceira idade, Epidemiologia, Exame Clínico. Artigos significativos foram selecionados referente a temática em revisão, na qual pontuou-se a epidemiologia, sinais e sintomas das Disfunções temporomandibular e o exame clínico. Resultados esperados: de maneira geral, apesar do crescente número de pesquisas sobre os tratamentos das DTMs, ainda não existe consenso quanto a melhor técnica terapêutica e ao real benefício de cada uma delas na terceira idade

Abstract: Study hypothesis: The study suggests the awareness of the elderly regarding temporomandibular disorder and its impact on the health of the elderly, being crucial the early diagnosis to avoid major disorders. Objective: To conceptualize the temporomandibular dysfunction in the elderly, to understand the causes, signs and symptoms of temporomandibular dysfunction in the elderly, to present the dental intervention means for the treatment of temporomandibular dysfunction in the elderly. Method: The present work is a literature review conducted through scientific articles published in different databases (PubMed, Medline, Scielo, Bireme and Google Scholar), using the keywords: Temporomandibular Joint Disorders, Temporomandibular Dysfunction, old age, Epidemiology, Clinical Exam. Significant articles were selected regarding the theme under review, in which the epidemiology, signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorders and clinical examination were scored. Expected Outcomes: Overall, despite the growing number of research on TMD treatments, there is still no consensus on the best therapeutic technique and the real benefit of each in the elderly
