Abstract

Resumo: A Odontologia Hospitalar é aquela exercida dentro de um ambiente hospitalar visando à inclusão do cirurgião-dentista (CD) na equipe multidisciplinar com o objetivo de participar do processo de cura e melhora da qualidade de vida, independentemente do tipo de doença que acomete o paciente. Contudo, a atuação do CD nos hospitais possui certa deficiência, mesmo sabendo que é imprescindível a higiene bucal para excluir doenças e manter a normalidade na cavidade bucal. O objetivo do estudo foi realizar uma revisão de literatura sobre o papel do CD no atendimento hospitalar desde a dificuldade enfrentada para sua inserção nos hospitais até a utilização de procedimentos adequados durante a internação do paciente. Os protocolos de conduta, quando utilizados em larga escala, trazem benefícios tanto ao paciente quanto ao hospital, reduzindo custos que agravamentos poderiam trazer.

Abstract: Hospital dentistry is one performed within a hospital environment aiming at the inclusion of the dental surgeon in the multidisciplinary team with the objective of participating in the process of healing and improvement of the quality of life, regardless of the type of illness that affects the patient. However, the performance of dental surgeon in hospitals has a certain deficiency, even knowing that oral hygiene is essential to exclude diseases and maintain normality in the oral cavity. The objective of the study was to carry out a review of the literature on the role of the dental surgeon in the hospital care from the difficulty faced for its insertion in the hospitals until the use of adequate procedures during the hospitalization of the patient. The protocols of conduct, when used on a large scale, bring benefits to both the patient and the hospital, reducing costs that the aggravations could bring.
