Atendimento odontológico ao paciente com HIV/AIDS : principais manifestações bucais e aspectos humanitários a serem considerados pelo cirurgião-dentista

Abstract

Resumo: A síndrome da imunodeficiência adquirida (SIDA) é caracterizada por uma grave redução do sistema imunológico e sua origem está relacionada à infecção pelo vírus da imunodeficiência humana (HIV). Os indivíduos infectados apresentam doenças oportunistas e tumores malignos e, diante disso, uma atenção especial deve ser dada à saúde bucal desses pacientes, uma vez que as manifestações orais estão entre os primeiros sinais clínicos de infecção pelo HIV e podem prever a progressão para AIDS. Nesse contexto, o papel do cirurgião-dentista é de extrema importância, principalmente no diagnóstico precoce dessas manifestações, devendo agir com ética e respeito a fim de contribuir para a melhoria da qualidade de vida desses pacientes. Objetivo: Avaliar, por meio de uma revisão de literatura, as principais manifestações bucais presentes em pacientes com HIV/AIDS e os aspectos humanitários que devem ser considerados pelo cirurgião-dentista durante o atendimento a esses pacientes. Conclusão: A candidose oral e a leucoplasia pilosa oral são as lesões de maior manifestação em pacientes com HIV/AIDS e, além disso, o papel do cirurgião-dentista é de extrema importância para a melhoria da qualidade de vida desses pacientes devendo agir com ética e respeito, de forma a eliminar toda e qualquer forma de discriminação.

Abstract: The acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is characterized by a severe reduction of the immune system and its origin is related to infection by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Infected individuals often have opportunistic diseases and malignant tumors, and special attention must therefore be given to the oral health of these patients, since oral manifestations are among the first clinical signs of HIV infection and can predict progression to AIDS. In this context, the role of the dental surgeon is extremely important, especially in the early diagnosis of these manifestations, and must act with ethics and respect in order to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of these patients. Objective: To evaluate, through a literature review, the main oral manifestations present in patients with HIV / AIDS and what humanitarian aspects should be considered by the dental surgeon during the care of these patients. Conclusion: It can be concluded that oral candidiasis is the most frequent lesion in patients with HIV / AIDS, and that, in addition, the role of the dental surgeon is extremely important for improving the quality of life of these patients ethics and respect, in order to eliminate all forms of discrimination.
