Atendimento odontológico de portadores HIV/AIDS

Abstract

Resumo: Em mais de 30 anos de história da AIDS, muitos avanços e descobertas ocorreram, entretanto, ainda há muito a evoluir no que se refere ao comportamento social frente ao paciente HIV/AIDS. É uma doença que vai além do comprometimento biológico, envolve estigmas, preconceito e marginalização. Muitos profissionais da saúde, infelizmente, acabam evitando o tratamento destes pacientes, por não se sentirem seguros em relação ao conhecimento dos aspectos clínicos da doença, suas complicações, receio de sofrer um acidente ocupacional e a dificuldade em lidar com o próprio preconceito. Na odontologia, as manifestações bucais podem representar os primeiros sinais clínicos da doença, por vezes antecedendo as manifestações sistêmicas. Logo, o conhecimento apropriado sobre questões técnicas e éticas relacionadas à infecção pelo HIV; as principais manifestações bucais; assim como, a conduta frente a acidentes de trabalho são de suma importância para este profissional. Sendo assim, este trabalho teve por objetivo revisar a literatura científica sobre o atendimento odontológico de portadores HIV/AIDS, possibilitando esclarecimentos para basear as condutas clínicas em evidências científicas que permitam ao cirurgião dentista realizar o tratamento clínico adequado, o diagnóstico precoce e tratamento das patologias bucais associadas a doença visando uma melhor qualidade de vida para o paciente HIV/AIDS.

Abstract: In more than 30 years of AIDS history, many advances and discoveries have occurred, however, there is still much to evolve with regard to social behavior towards HIV/AIDS patients. It is a disease that goes beyond biological commitment, involves stigmas, prejudice and marginalization. Many health professionals, unfortunately, end up avoiding the treatment of these patients, as they do not feel safe in relation to the knowledge of the clinical aspects of the disease, its complications, fear of suffering an occupational accident and the difficult in dealing with their own prejudice. In dentistry, oral manifestations can represent the first clinical signs of the disease, sometimes preceding systemic manifestations. Hence, appropriate knowledge about technical and ethical issues related to HIV infection; the main oral manifestations; as well as, the conduct in the face of accidents at work are of paramount importance for this professional. Therefore, this study aimed to review the scientific literature on the dental care of HIV/AIDS patients, providing clarifications to base clinical conduct on scientific evidence that allows the dental surgeon to perform the appropriate clinical treatment, early diagnosis and treatment of pathologies diseases associate with the disease aiming at a better quality of life for the HIV/AIDS patient.
