Diagnóstico de câncer, confronto com a finitude e redefinição do sentido da vida : uma análise a partir do filme 50/50

Abstract

Resumo: O câncer é uma doença com alta incidência na população mundial e temida por muitos, pelo fato de estar associada à possibilidade da morte. Dada a complexidade da doença, ao receber o diagnóstico de câncer os pacientes são afetados nas mais diversas situações da existência. Ocorrendo assim, alterações em situações profissionais, sociais, físicas, emocionais, vida afetiva, vida financeira, etc. O objetivo desse estudo foi analisar a experiência de um personagem do filme "50/50", que recebe o diagnóstico de câncer, procurando compreender a relação entre o diagnóstico e a percepção de finitude e sentido da vida. No filme, Adam, o personagem principal, é diagnosticado com um tipo raro de câncer. A partir do diagnóstico, ele inicia sua jornada na luta contra o câncer, vivenciando o embate com a finitude. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo e exploratório. O delineamento adotado é o estudo de caso, permitindo assim o aprofundamento da temática e dos fenômenos. O procedimento adotado para a coleta de dados, se deu através da seleção e análise de diálogos do filme que abordam a temática central da pesquisa. Os dados foram organizados em quadros, onde fragmentos de diálogos foram correlacionados aos conceitos da análise existencial de Viktor Frankl, com objetivo de facilitar a compreensão do fenômeno investigado.Quanto aos resultados, pode-se observar que, o embate com a finitude possibilita a valorização do momento presente, enquanto algo único, de uma vida que só se vive uma vez. Nesse sentido, o homem é chamado a exercer escolhas diante das indagações da vida, e através da realização de valores de criação; valores de vivência e valores de atitude, é capaz de encontrar sentido em sua existência.É possível concluir que, os objetivos estabelecidos foram alcançados, porém, tal temática carece de estudos mais amplos.

Abstract: Cancer is a disease with a high incidence in the world population and feared for many people, in fact it is associated with the high possibility of death. Given the complexity of this, when receiving the diagnosis of cancer, patients are affected in the most diverse situations of existence. Thus, changes occur in professional, social, physical, emotional situations and also affective life, financial life, etc. The goal of this study was analyzing the experience of a character from the movie "50/50", who is diagnosed with cancer, looking for to understand the relationship between the diagnosis and the perception of finitude and life’s meaning. In the film, Adam, the main character, is diagnosed with a rare type of cancer. At the beginning of diagnosis, he starts his journey in the fight against cancer, experiencing the struggle with finitude. It is about a qualitative and exploratory study. The adopted outline is the case study, thus allowing the deepening of the theme and phenomena. The procedure adopted for data collection, was through the selection and analysis of dialogues of the film that address the central theme of the research. The data were organized in tables, where fragments of dialogues were correlated to the concepts of Viktor Frankl's existential analysis, in order to facilitate the understanding of the phenomenon investigated. As for the results, it can be seen that the struggle with finitude makes it possible to value the present moment, while something unique, of a life that is only lived once. In this sense, man is called to exercise his choices in the face of life's questions, and through the realization of creation values; values of experience and values of attitude, it is able to find meaning in its existence. It is possible to conclude that, the established objectives were reached, however, this theme needs other studies.
