Conhecimento dos cirurgiões-dentistas sobre emergência em odontologia : revisão de literatura

Abstract

Resumo: O cirurgião-dentista pode se deparar com situações de emergências em seu consultório. Na maioria das vezes essas emergências ocorrem de maneira inesperada e o profissional precisa estar apto para lidar com tais situações. Este estudo teve como objetivo revisar a literatura científica sobre o conhecimento dos cirurgiões-dentistas sobre emergências na odontologia. Os resultados obtidos foram que grande parte dos dentistas não se sentem capacitados para lidar com situações emergenciais, e muitas vezes não conseguem nem identificar tais situações. Observou-se que tanto os profissionais já em atividade, quanto os alunos em formação, dizem que a questão de emergências em odontologia deveria ser melhor estudada nas faculdades. Espera-se que através deste estudo fique clara a importância do preparo dos dentistas para identificar e resolver situações emergenciais, levando em conta que isso pode vir a salvar a vida de um paciente

Abstract: The dental surgeon can face emergency situations in his/her clinic. Most of the time these emergencies occur unexpectedly and the professional needs to be able to deal with such situations. This study’s goal was to review specialized literature about the dentists’ knowledge about emergencies in dentistry. The results obtained were that most the dentists do not feel able to deal with emergency situations, and often they cannot even identify such situations. It was noted that both professionals already working and students in practicing say that the matter of emergencies in dentistry should be studied better in colleges. It is expected that through this study the importance of preparing dentists to identify and resolve emergency situations becomes clear, considering that it could even save a patient’s life
