Atuação do cirurgião-dentista no âmbito hospitalar : revisão de literatura

Abstract

Resumo: A odontologia hospitalar é uma prática que vem crescendo constantemente a cada dia visando a inclusão do cirurgião-dentista nas equipes multidisciplinares em hospitais, com a função de participar do processo de diagnóstico, tratamento e melhora da qualidade de vida dos pacientes internados nas Unidades de Terapia Intensiva (UTI) e clínicas médicas possibilitando a recuperação mais rápida com consequente desospitalização. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi realizar por meio da revisão de literatura, com base em dados bibliográficos, como Medline, Scielo, RevOdonto e Lilacs, relacionar a importância da saúde bucal com a manutenção de outras doenças sistêmicas de pacientes internados nas unidades hospitalares e a ação do cirurgião dentista dentro desse processo. A discussão mostrou que o trabalho do Cirurgião-Dentista habilitado em Odontologia Hospitalar possibilita a redução das chances de desenvolvimento de infecções respiratórias em pacientes internados, porém, mostrou um movimento apenas de determinados hospitais na inserção do cirurgião-dentista no ambiente hospitalar, atuando na função preventiva, avaliativa e na formulação de protocolos de atendimento, com foco na higiene oral.

Abstract: Hospital dentistry is a practice that has been growing constantly every day aiming at the inclusion of the dentist in multidisciplinary teams in hospitals, with the function of participating in the process of diagnosis, treatment and improvement of the quality of life of patients hospitalized in Intensive Care Units (ICU) and medical clinics enabling faster recovery with consequent dehospitalization. The study’s goal was to carry out through a literature review, based on bibliographic data, such as Medline, Scielo, RevOdonto and Lilacs, to relate the importance of oral health with the maintenance of other systemic diseases on hospitalized patients in hospital units and the action of the dental surgeon within this process. The discussion showed that the work of the Dental Surgeon qualified in Hospital Dentistry allows the reduction of the chances of developing respiratory infections in hospitalized patients, however, it showed a movement of only certain hospitals in the insertion of the dentist in the hospital environment, acting in the preventive and evaluative function and in the formulation of care protocols, focusing on oral hygiene
