A opção pelo curso de letras : representações dos alunos ingressantes sobre a carreira docente

Abstract

RESUMO: Este texto trata de uma pesquisa realizada com alunos universitários do curso de Letras de uma Universidade do interior do Estado de São Paulo. O objetivo foi investigar os motivos pelos quais os alunos ingressantes optaram por esse curso e quais são as representações acerca do trabalho docente que subjazem aos motivos responsáveis por essa escolha. Cremos que conhecer o perfil desses alunos ingressantes é importante para promover os ajustes necessários ao processo de ensino/aprendizagem dentro do curso. Partimos do pressuposto de que cognição e afetividade são indissociáveis na natureza humana. Nosso aporte teórico principal é a teoria histórico-cultural de Vigotski sobre as relações de pensamento e linguagem e de significado e sentido das palavras. Também nos respaldamos na Teoria das Representações Sociais de Moscovici, no que se refere às estruturas representativas de linguagem e docência. Para realizar nossa investigação, solicitamos aos sujeitos da pesquisa que respondessem a um questionário contendo quatro perguntas. Como metodologia, recorremos à Análise de Conteúdo de Bardin, classificando os dados em categorias temáticas, para analisar as respostas fornecidas por esses alunos. Os resultados apontaram quais são as representações sociais acerca da figura do professor que os influenciaram na opção pela carreira docente, e quais as causas sociais que os conduziram à opção por Letras. Concluímos que, em geral, os alunos são motivados pelo desejo de lecionar ou de adquirir o domínio da norma-padrão e compreensão das obras literárias. Isso assinala que a tarefa docente é vista por esses alunos como um trabalho útil e humanitário, daí concluirmos haver intrínsecas causas afetivas que os motivaram na escolha, e não unicamente causas de interesse econômico ou pragmático.

ABSTRACT: This paper treats about a search realized with pupils of Linguistics course (Portuguese-English / Portuguese-Spanish) of a College from São Paulo State, Brazil. The objective was to investigate the reason that made the pupils to choose by that course and to investigate what are the representations about teaching working that underlie the reason responsible for their choice. We believe that knowing the profile of these new students is important to promote the necessary adjustments to the teaching and learning within the Linguistics course. We assumed that cognition and emotion are inseparable in human nature. Our main theoretical basis is the Historical-cultural theory of Vigotski on the relations of thought and language and meaning and meaning of words. Also underpinned the Theory of Representations of Moscovici, in relation to representative structures of language and teaching. To accomplish our research, we ask research subjects to answer a questionnaire containing four questions. The methodology relied on the Content Analysis of Bardin, classifying the data into categories thematic, in order to analyze the responses provided by these students. The results showed what are the social representations about the figure of the teacher that influenced their choice of teaching career, and what are the social causes that led to the choice of Linguistics course. We conclude that, in general, students are motivated by a desire to teach or to acquire mastery of the Standard Portuguese and understanding of literary works. This indicates that the task of teaching is seen by these students as a useful and humanitarian work, hence we concluded there is intrinsic emotional causes that motivated their choice, and not only causes economic or pragmatic interest.
