Desafios da mulher contemporânea : 'ser mulher' e a não escolha da maternidade

Abstract

Resumo: Na sociedade contemporânea as mulheres vêm ganhando maiores destaques nos meios profissionais e esferas públicas, uma vez que a mulher passou a participar do mercado de trabalho e ter escolhas sobre sua vida pessoal e profissional. Por isso, a opção da mulher por não ter filhos é um fenômeno que vem se ampliando. O objetivo desse estudo foi compreender a vivência de mulheres que escolheram pela não maternidade, analisar o significado de ser mulher, a representação da maternidade para a mulher, os motivos pela escolha de não ser mãe, os desafios da mulher na escolha da não-maternidade em relação à família, os sentimentos da mulher que escolheu a não-maternidade e as influências da carreira profissional na não escolha da maternidade. Trata-se de uma pesquisa com delineamento qualitativo e estudo de caso. O instrumento utilizado foi entrevista semiestruturada. Para composição da amostra, os participantes foram selecionados por amostragem bola de neve e foi realizado um perfil socioeconômico para caracterizar a amostra. Foram entrevistadas sete participantes, os critérios de inclusão foram: mulheres, do sexo feminino, na faixa etária de 20 a 45 anos, ausência de filhosvoluntariamente, residentes no vale do paraíba. Para analisar os dados foi realizada análise por categorização e foram elaboradas seis categorias de análise. A partir dos resultados obtidos podemos observar que ser mulher para as participantes denota luta, e suas conquistas dependem da sua batalha. Em relação à representação da maternidade, foi possível identificar que a maternidade demanda responsabilidade e entrega, sendo um dos principais motivos da não escolha da maternidade. Referente aos desafios, os questionamentos sobre a maternidade vêm dos familiares mais velhos e da sociedade, porém as participantes se posicionam sobre os motivos dessa escolha. A carreira profissional exerce influência, mas não foi o determinante para a escolha de não ser mãe, uma vez que além da responsabilidade em ter um filho, as participantes prezam pela própria liberdade. Em relação à vivência dessa escolha, compreende-se que as participantes sentem- se felizes e realizadas, e apresentam inúmeros planejamentos para o futuro, os quais não incluem a maternidade. Diante desses resultados ressalta-se a importância da ampliação para outras regiões, etnias e classes sociais, visto que as participantes são todas residentes na cidade de Taubaté Estado de São Paulo, identificam-se como brancas, e possuem acesso ao ensino superior.

Abstract:In contemporary society, women have gained greater prominence in professional circles and public spheres, since women started to participate in the labor market and have choices about their personal and professional lives. Therefore, the choice of women not to have children is a phenomenon that has been expanding. The aim of this study was to understand the experience of women who chose non-maternity, analyze the meaning of being a woman, the representation of motherhood for women, the reasons for choosing not to be a mother, the challenges of women in choosing non- maternity in relation to the family, the feelings of the woman who chose non-maternity and the influences of her professional career in not choosing motherhood. It is a research with qualitative design and case study. The instrument used was the semi- structured interview. For sample composition, participants were selected by snowball sampling and a socioeconomic profile was performed to characterize the sample. Seven participants were interviewed, the inclusion criteria were: women, female, aged between 20 and 45 years, voluntarily absent children, residing in the "Vale do Paraíba". To analyze the data, analysis by categorization was performed and six categories of analysis were elaborated. From the results obtained, we can observe that being a woman for the participants denotes a struggle, and their achievements depend on their battle. Regarding the representation of motherhood, it was possible to identify that motherhood demands responsibility, being one of the main reasons for not choosing motherhood. Regarding the challenges, questions about motherhood come from older family members and society, but the participants take a stand on the reasons for this choice. The professional career exerts influence, but it was not decisive for the option of not being a mother, as in addition to the responsibility of having a child, as a participant, it values one's own freedom. Regarding the experience of this choice, it is understood that the participants feel happy and fulfilled, and have numerous plans for the future, which do not include motherhood. In view of these results, the importance of expanding to other regions, ethnicities and social classes ishighlighted, as the participants are all residents of the city of Taubaté State of São Paulo, identify themselves as white, and have access to higher education.
