Opressão e silenciamento : uma análise do poder disciplinar na obra O Conto da Aia sob a perspectiva do Vigiar e Punir

Abstract

Resumo: O presente trabalho teve como objetivo analisar a construção e o desenvolvimento das relações de poder presentes no romance distópico O conto da Aia, da escritora canadense Margaret Atwood, sob a perspectiva do estudo monumental do filósofo Michel Foucault, a fim de evidenciar que é por meio da disciplina que as relações de poder se estabelecem e se identificam entre o comando e o comandado, o opressor e o oprimido. Para introduzir a análise da obra, será apresentado no primeiro capítulo uma breve biografia da escritora, o movimento que acarretou o sucesso da obra, o resumo da obra e o conceito de distopia para compreender porque se trata de um romance distópico. No segundo capítulo foi apresentado o conceito de língua e linguagem e o estudo de Michel Foucault na obra Vigiar e Punir, visando elucidar os principais elementos do poder disciplinar, que são possíveis também de serem constatados no romance analisado. No terceiro e último capítulo foi apresentada uma breve concepção do silenciamento que é resultado do poder disciplinar. A análise do romance foi sendo composta ao longo dos capítulos de fundamentação teórica para que as correlações fossem explicitadas e exemplificadas no decorrer do trabalho. Por fim, são apresentadas as considerações finais.

Abstract: This research aims to analyze the construction and development ofpower relations in the dystopian novel The Handmaid's Tale, written byMargaret Atwood, from the perspective of the monumental study by thephilosopher Michel Foucault, with the purpose to show that it is throughdiscipline that power relations are established and identified between thecommand and the commanded, the opressor and the opressed. To introducethe analysis, it was presented in the first chapter a brief biography of the author,the movement that led to the success of the book, the book summary and theconcept of dystopia to better understand why the book is considered adystopian novel. In the second chapter it was presented the concept oflanguage and the study of Michael Foucault in the book Discipline and Punish,with the goal to elucidate the main elements of disciplinary power, which arealso possible to be verified in the book that this paper intends to analyze. Thethird chapter brings a brief concept of silencing which is the result of disciplinarypower. To accomplish that the novel analysis was introduced between thetheoretical foundation so that the correlations were explicit and exemplifiedthroughout this research. Finally, the final considerations regarding this workare presented.
